Shadow Theatre 2005 Shadow Theatre is a sculptural installation commissioned by the De La Warr Pavilion, UK, for the international group exhibition, Variety in October 2005. The work consists of a model of a modern theatre complex upon which a play of shadows is projected. The shadow play is ambiguous; combining simulated overhead passes of aircraft and birds with more mundane activity to form a narrative sequence of both playful images and an ominous threatening presence. The shadow play is a continuous loop of light and darkness that transforms the model into a diorama of night and day. The contrast of this dark content accentuates a sense of dread and tension inherent in the stark urban architecture and is all the more sharply drawn in the light of real events that took place in the building upon which the model is based.
